Don Ogan Recovery Fund

Don protégé
On the morning of January 1st, 2019, our dad suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke.

We are asking for your help.

What happened:

Our dad collapsed unexpectedly on Tuesday morning. Our youngest brother Landon quickly found him partially conscious on the bathroom floor. Dad arrived at the emergency room around 11:00 a.m and the emergency room team soon realized that he was experiencing symptoms of a severe hemorrhagic stroke.

Tests and scans showed bleeding in his brain and as a result, he is experiencing paralysis in his face and the entire right side of his body. Additionally he is struggling with basic cognitive functions such as talking, understanding, and identifying people. He stayed four days in the ICU and is currently in Acute Care.

Doctors recently found diastolic heart-failure secondary to his stroke. Dad has been monitored extremely close and is expected to stay in Acute Care for an extended period of time.

This is all that we know thus far. Doctors are unsure of whether or not our dad will be able to make a full recovery, but we remain optimistic trusting that God is in control.

Specific medical information:

There are two main types of strokes: Ischemic and Hemorrhagic. Hemorrhagic strokes are the less common and more serious of the two. This type of stroke occurs when a blood vessel inside the brain bursts and leaks blood into the surrounding brain tissue causing brain cells to deteriorate and the affected part of the brain to stop functioning properly. The stroke that our dad experienced is an Intracerebral Hemorrhagic Stroke.

There are two main types of heart failure: Diastolic and Systolic. Diastolic heart failure is when the lower chamber of the heart is not able to fill properly with blood during the diastolic phase, reducing the amount of blood pumped out of the body. Our dad is experiencing Diastolic Heart Failure in the left side of his heart.

Doctors are unsure of the permanence of these conditions but believe that with intense speech and physical therapy, recovery is possible.

Financial situation:

Our dad is currently not covered under any insurance policy. He was scheduled to begin a new job on January 3rd where he would begin receiving medical insurance, however, given the circumstances, will be unable too.

Medical and health expenses:
Ambulance, ICU, Acute care, physical therapy, speech therapy, in-home care, medication
Living expenses:
Housing

How to help:

* Prayer/words of encouragement
* Favorite songs/worship song to play for our dad
* Encouraging letters to our dad we can read to him
* Donate to the recovery fund
* Support for his immediate family

Our dad has a long recovery ahead of him, but has the full support of all six of us kids and our extended families. We hope that he has your support too. As we come together with family and friends during this time of tragedy, we are extremely grateful for all of your love and support. If you would like to donate financially to help with our dad’s expenses, it would be greatly appreciated!

We are praising God that our dad is alive, and we are preparing for the long journey ahead. Thank you for all of your prayers and support!
