Donations for Doug

Doug was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma of the nasal cavity, throat, tongue, and lymph nodes. This is a rare head and neck cancer in the US, of which Doug does not fit any of the criteria. Due to the location of the tumor, surgical resection is not an option. The University of Chicago doctors put together a radical and aggressive treatment plan consisting of 8 weeks of induction chemotherapy, which will be administered on a 3 week on and 1 week off approach, immediately followed by 7 more weeks of chemo/radiation therapy, which will be administered together on a 1 week on and 1 week off approach. During the periods of his week on, Doug will be admitted into the hospital on a Sunday for his treatment and discharged on the following Friday. He will then be off for a week to allow his body to recover and then start the process again for the next 5 weeks. Doug will undergo multiple diagnostic exams periodically to track the progress of the treatment.

During the 15 weeks of his chemo/radiation therapy, Doug is unable to go to work, as he is being administered the largest dose and strongest version of chemo and radiation the human body can take in that period of time. We are raising funds to help combat medical expenses and other expenses that will surely arise with Doug not being able to work.

Doug is a fighter and has a very positive attitude. "I've never lost a fight, and I'm not losing this one." is what he told his wife, Maribeth, and his four children, Ellie, Michael, Nick and Maddie.
