Hey guys! My name is Katie. My roommate Ally and I are hosting a fundraiser to support our local Coastal Horizons Rape Crisis Center. It's going to be Saturday, May 19th starting at 6 at Sour Barn. We are going to have t-shirts and raffle prizes - all proceeds will go towards the RCC. A portion of beer sales will go towards our cause as well.
Ally and I were victims of sexual trauma at the end of November, and because of that, we have come to understand how important the work our local RCC is. They are an organization that doesn't get a ton of recognition and praise, although they deserve more than just praise for what they do. Not only do they provide invaluable support when victims need it the most and have no clue where to turn, but they offer support and therapy for secondary survivors as well. I cannot put into words how much I have needed and come to appreciate this organization and the people that work within it.
My birthday is May 21st, shortly after our fundraiser, so if you have the opportunity to donate to this event, please do that in place of getting me a gift. If you don't have the funds available to donate, please know that any support we receive and any awareness raised for sexual assault victims is more than enough. This fundraiser is our way of turning a horrible experience into something positive. We want to give back to those that have helped us and countless others through some of the darkest times a person can experience.
