EDITED FROM YEAR 2 (2022) to YEAR 3 (2023) - IT'S NOW THE FINAL PUSH

First of all, thank you for all of you who contributed 2600$ to help us through year 2. We made it !

I am an older brother and a guardian to my 3 lovely younger siblings. They were without school for 3 frustrating years.

A civil war broke out in my country and has been plaguing my region for 6 years now. Two of my siblings graduated from high school in 2017, and one graduated from high school in 2018. They have always been the responsibility of my parents, but since the civil war started things have not been the same. Schools have been shut down, ghost towns have become rampant, businesses have been closed and fighting between the military and the insurgent army became an everyday thing. Economic activities froze, and because of this my parents lost their jobs which were their only source of livelihood. They postponed enrolment of my younger siblings into university, hoping that things will get better as time goes. Instead, as time passed, the war became bloodier and young boys were being forced to join the insurgent army. Their security was not certain anymore and I knew that sooner than later my younger siblings will be forced to join too. Something had to be done, so I stepped in. I took them out of the war stricken zone and made them my responsibility because of the love and bond I share with them.

I had worked for a job that gives me just enough to survive. To take care of them, I had to double my efforts, so I got a second job and worked day and night. With the goal of continuing their education in university, they found jobs at the local restaurant and retailing shops as we joined forces and saved funds for 2yrs to cover their university expenses.

Finally, it was time. We had saved enough money to cover the university expenses for the first year. They took the entrance examinations and got admitted into the university. I had never seen them this happy since the war broke out and I was happy for them too, they got what they wanted. They still worked as they attended school so we started saving immediately for their second year, but the pace was slow since they could only work part time.
The first part of this crowdfunding successfully raised 2600$, and we managed to pay for their 2nd year of tuition.
They are done with their second year and passed all their exams.

We worked hard this summer (2023) to cover as much as we could of what is left.
We have managed to secure the equivalent of 6000 $, paying for rent, exams and books. We now need a final push to pay for tuition - and then they will finally graduate. We are looking for an extra 2500 $ bringing this campaign's total to 5100$.

I know life is not always fair to everyone but I also know my siblings deserve to be happy and we have made it this far. I truly believe we can make it to the end !
That is why I need your help to help raise the funds to cover the university expenses of my siblings through this GoFundMe. Donors will receive copies of receipts and news from their schooling - especially a picture of them at their graduation ceremony. Thank you for anything you can give and do to share this campaign as it will help change this family’s life.

God bless you as you contribute.

Meet the students:

Emmanuela
I am a female Cameroonian student studying computer and network engineering at the Harvard Higher Institute of Technology in Yaounde, Cameroon.

I come from a village called Bafut, found in the Northwest Region of Cameroon.

This region has been going through a bloody civil war for the past five years.

When I graduated from high school back in 2018, the war was in early stages. My mother and father lost their livelihoods due to incessant violence between the warring parties, which led to heavy casualties. Schools were shut down, ghost towns became frequent, and the economic atmosphere was down.

As a result, I was forced to put all my studies and academic goals on hold. I postponed enrollment into university for three years because we could not afford my university expenses.

We prayed for a return to peace. Instead, the war became bloodier and more unbearable, forcing our older brother to move my siblings and me out of the conflict zone to the capital city, Yaoundé. He knew how passionate I have always been about academics and could not stand watching me lose all hope of chasing my dreams, so he worked restlessly and indebted himself to make sure I was enrolled in university. The tuition costs are high and we need help for me to continue.

My story is full of setbacks and disappointments. But since I got enrolled into the university, all my high hopes and big dreams for a bright future have been rekindled. University will give me the platform through which I can make my dreams a reality. That is why I need your help to raise the funds that will help cover my university tuition through this GoFundMe. Your donations would be the bridge between me and my dreams.

God bless you as you donate

Hello people,

I come from the village of Bujong in Cameroon, a West African country. I'm in my first year of university and I study industrial engineering. I have always had a thing for inventing that is why I chose this field.

Before I got into university, I was without school for 4 years because of a civil war in my region. As time passed, schools were shut down and almost all life was frozen.

All those years, I stayed home in the conflict zone and helped my parents out. Because of the war, my parents lost their sources of income. They could not afford my university expenses. When the war intensified, young men were forcefully recruited into the armed militias fighting the state military. Unfortunately, I was the right age. My family knew sooner than later they would come to take me.

So, my older brother took me out of the conflict area. Through hustle and assistance from family friends, he raised funds to cover my first-year university expenses.

Being in university made me feel complete and revived dreams which I had almost forgotten about. Except now that I'm done with my first year in the university, I can't cover the expenses for the second year. I feel life has let me down because I can't become who I really want to be without pushing on with my education.

You can have a hand in helping me to make my dreams a reality by donating to further my education through this GoFundMe which will help raise the funds I need for my university tuition.

Thank you for donating. God bless you

Hi there.
I'm a university student from Cameroon, a country in West Africa. A civil war has been plaguing my home region for 5 years now. I graduated high school in 2017 when the war was already ongoing. Because of the civil war, my parents lost their jobs and because of this I wasn't able to continue school because I could not afford it. I was without school for 3years.

As time passed, the war intensified and our security was not certain. That was when my older brother (who is now my guardian) worked hard day and night to move me across the country to a safe area and see that he could further my education.

With help from him and other family friends, I wrote the university entrance exam and was admitted. my family managed to raise some funds which were used to pay my tuition and accommodation fee for that year.

At one time I thought life had let me down but since I got into university my life hasn't been the same. I believe life has given me a second chance to chase my dreams. My dream is to become a lawyer.

But now I feel my dreams are about shattered because I can't afford for my second year in university. The civil war has gotten worse and things have not been easy for my older brother.

That is why I'm asking for your help in raising my university funds through this GoFundMe to help me make my dream of becoming a lawyer a reality.
