Support Sunhyun Miller's Healing Journey
Don protégé
Dear friends and family,
As you may have heard, our beloved younger brother Sunhyun Miller experienced a sudden and unexpected cardiac arrest on September 4th, potentially caused by a rare viral complication of the heart. After 30 minutes of CPR by first his wife Yeol-Shim and then the EMTs who arrived on the scene, his pulse finally returned. We thank God for that miracle. However, even with his heart now working, he still has a long road to recovery. He continues to be in a coma in critical condition at the Beth Israel Deaconess ICU, where he was just transferred from a small New Hampshire hospital which, while exceptional, was not in a position to manage care for his complicated recovery.
I am writing to you today to ask for your support for Sunhyun and Yeol-Shim at this incredibly difficult time in their lives.
Sunhyun is a man of principle and heart, who has spent his entire life giving of himself to his community, his family, and friends. Whether as an assistant pastor, a church lecturer, a loyal friend, a loving brother, uncle, and son, or an irreplaceable husband, Sunhyun has always given his all to the people around him. He and Yeol-Shim have worked hard to create intentional community and to support the church and young adult communities around them in Boston and now in New Hampshire. Sunhyun has spent his entire life helping others. But now, Sunhyun is in a crisis, and he desperately needs our help.
Sunhyun is only 30 years old. We are praying every day for him to wake up and rejoin us. Our hearts ache for him and for Yeol-Shim. But no matter the difficulties that lie ahead, we believe in Sunhyun and we believe that he will come back to us.
Until that happens, we are asking for the community’s assistance in supporting Sunhyun and Yeol-Shim through this difficult time. Neither of them is earning an income during this crisis, so they need help with monthly expenses for at least the next six months. On top of that, they are expecting significant medical bills, since Sunhyun needed to be transferred to a new hospital, and the cost of the transfer may not be covered by insurance. Even with insurance, we are expecting at least $40,000+ in medical expenses over the course of his treatment, since Sunhyun will undoubtedly need multiple months in hospital and rehab. The family is also looking at over $8,000 per month for accommodations near his new hospital.
Every little bit that you can contribute will help to ease their financial worries and allow Yeol-Shim to focus her full effort on being Sunhyun’s advocate and assisting in Sunhyun’s recovery, from ICU to acute rehab and beyond.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your help. It is with your love and support that Yeol-Shim and our entire family can work tirelessly toward the goal of Sunhyun’s return to health. As the Miller family motto goes: “Never give up, never surrender!”
All our love,
The Miller family
