Hi guys,
As a lot of you may know, I recently went to greece for my honeymoon and met a dog that Blake and I just fell inlove with. We named him Fred and we spent most of our honeymoon with him, he slept in our room, we bathed him, fed him, took him everywhere we went and on our last day did everything we could to try and bring this sweet boy home. Sadly we had no luck getting things in order and were forced to leave him in Santorini loose on the island. On the plane ride home I found an advertisement in the airplane magazine for an organization called "Save a Greek Stray" I ripped it out in case they could help me.
After we got home I made some calls and realized it wasnt that difficult to bring a stray home to Canada. Canadian rules were not complicated at all. I emailed about 10 organizations and I received some responses of "sorry we arent able to help you bring the dog home but wish you the best" There was also many organizations that didnt respond at all. One incredible organization did though, Save a Greek Stray contacted me daily to help me organize getting Fred home to Canada. After about a week and a half of making plans I booked a flight back to Santorini and the put my plan into action. Once I got off the plane I rented a car to find Fred, within 20 minutes of being off the plane I found him. That was mission one completed, we then had to take a ferry to Athens, where Vivi from the organization picked us up at 11:30pm, she then found us a beautiful home that we rented off of the generous vet that gave Fred his shots and paperwork. The vet stayed up until 12:30 for us to arrive at his home, provided us with food and gave us a tour. The next day Vivi picked Fred and I up, he received his shots and paperwork needed then we went to buy a suitable crate for the plane that Vivi had ordered. The next morning she took us to the airport and made sure we boarded the plane together and saw us off. This would have been impossible without the help of this incredible generous team.
I am forever thankful for what they did and I have now a different outlook on helping animals and making things possible.
What I know about this organization is right now they are maxed out at 120 animals in their care, they need donations to help save these animals and give them the care they need. Vivi told me that Freds vet does all the stray care out of his own pocket and that no other vets do this sort of thing.
I am starting this page to help give them a donation on behalf of helping me with Fred, I know there is many amazing places in Canada that need our help and I am going to also work on that but I wanted to start here. Another option to help them is look on there website, add them as a friend, share their posts or even adopt a pet to bring to Canada. Lets s ave a sweet animal in need.
