Help Mike STICK IT to Brain Cancer

I'm Brent Nichols. I have been friends with Mike since the early 1990s when we went to SFU together. I was honoured to stand with him as his best man at his wedding, and now I am standing with him as he fights back against the vicious brain cancer, Glioblastoma. As you can imagine, this is an incredibly challenging time for Mike, Susan, Jordan, Mady and Seanne and we are pulling together to do what we can to help.

Glioblastoma is an aggressive type of cancer that was found in Mike's brain in May 2021. He underwent brain surgery to remove a tumor six days later. In the last 15 months, he has gone through 30 sessions of radiation therapy and 6 months of the most aggressive chemotherapy available. Mike amazingly handled those challenges through the last year. Unfortunately, the cancer in his brain has returned and is spreading. Now Mike is beginning a new round of aggressive Chemotherapy and is combining it with Hyperthermia Therapy, which MSP does not cover.

Hyperthermia is a treatment in which body tissue is heated to as high as 45 °C/113 °F to help damage and kill cancer cells. Hyperthermia can significantly increase the potency of Chemotherapy and could extend Mike's life by years. Research has shown that the survival rate for Glioblastoma with just Radiation and Chemotherapy therapy is only 39% after one year, but combining those therapies with Hyperthermia could increase that survival rate to 82%.

Hyperthermia is very effective when combined with chemotherapy cancer treatment, but it is expensive. Mike needs two sessions a week and each session costs $600. So we are trying to raise the funds required to pay for a year of his Hyperthermia treatment.

A year of treatment could extend his life for multiple years; without it, his life expectancy is measured in months! Please give what you can to help Mike STICK IT to this horrible cancer!
