Donate to help Lisa kick cancer's butt

Welcome to our corner of the Internet. I'm Tammy, and this is my wife, Lisa. Together, we share our journey of love and fear, light and darkness, laughter and tears.

On July 10, 2022, we rushed Lisa to the hospital. On July 11, 2022, Dr. John Boggess took Lisa's hands and said, "Stage four ovarian cancer and peritoneal carcinomatosis."

The world stopped. I blinked back the tears that threatened to start and never stop. I watched and listened as he discussed options. No. He didn't discuss. He was very specific. This was an aggressive cancer with a not-so-great survival rate. Still, he gave us hope.

As of today, Lisa has had 13 chemo treatments in 20 months. She had a complete hysterectomy and omentum removal, and her peritoneum scraped. She has been hospitalized several times with neutropenic fever. She tried and failed a return to work (but still holds hope that day is coming). I gave up writing to spend every moment possible with her and our family.

There have been successes. After the first seven rounds of chemo, we celebrated her first remission. That was February to August of 2023. We celebrated really good days with laughter and ice cream. And we have been surrounded by love and kindness every step of the way.

When her CA125 number began to climb in August of 2023, we braced for six more rounds of chemo. That series ended in January 2024 when her body said, "No more."

Our hope was a remission even longer than before, one that would let her tired body heal, but this wasn't to be. There was no mention of remission at all, only a pause in treatment, a new plan, and, ultimately, a new chemo cocktail.

This Friday, we begin again. Four rounds this time. The new drug is called Doxil. It is given to "shrink tumors and decrease symptoms."

The journey has taken a toll on us mentally, physically, and monetarily. It is sad and scary, and we could use your help. If you can contribute and choose to do so, thank you. If you cannot contribute, a share would be just as beautiful. And if you are a reader of sapphic thrillers and would like to help by buying "Sandman" or "The Book of Promises," that would give this struggling author a big smile.

We have no idea where we go after this, but we know that we are thankful every single day for each and every one of you.

Thank you for being on this journey with us and surrounding us with the love and strength that can only come from a hive such as ours. ❤️

With deepest gratitude and love,
Tammy
