Donate to help keep your neighbors warm

The people living down at the Cobequid Ball field were just displaced from Little Sackville River, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. The city has shown very little interest in addressing the lack of housing - neither short-term nor long-term solutions. Winter is coming and Fiona was bad enough. Hotels are not being made available to them.

Our community has shown immense support and has asked how to help them. What do they need? Shelter. Warmth.

So far, the city of Halifax has had no problem allocating money in the budget to developers, clearing wetlands and creating more luxury apartment buildings. We can keep reminding them that they could put aside a few thousand dollars to go directly to people with an immediate need. We can also help our neighbors build directly.

These funds will be used to buy shelters made by a Dartmouth company, Well-engineered. The Shelters are 13k each and there are 7 people in need of shelters at this location. Any additional money will also go towards to solar heat and power so that they can access services. Edit: 3 more have shown interest and the total will be reflected to add them in once money starts coming in.

Community members also contribute by donating building materials, time, and energy. The total amount needed will be reduced every time we build a shelter with donated materials. If you would like to contribute time or materials, or if you have any questions please contact [email redacted]

If you are an organization that would be willing to manage the finances, please reach out to the email above.
