Dear Blackthorn friends, family and Inner Sunset neighbors,
It is with heavy hearts that we must share some sad news. As you may know, we recently celebrated our 30th anniversary. 30 years of serving the neighborhood, 30 years of paying rent, 30 years of working through recessions and a Pandemic, only to have our Landlords try to evict us.
In the summer of 2022, Backthorn needed a preverbial Post Covid shot in the arm to stay open. We were encouraged by the Landlords to pay for extensive improvements on the facility and training our incredible staff in an effort to reinvigorate the business. This was all done with the mutual understanding that a new long term lease would be negotiated and signed in 2023.
Now, with improvements done, and business significantly improved, the land lords wish to evict us and open their own bar. They want to kick us out, swoop in, and capitalize on our hard work and financial investment.
The landlord, McGrath Corporation, is currently doing their best to bleed us dry with legal fees as we fight to keep our home. We are nearing the limit of what we can spend on lawyers and we need your help.
If you can, please help us keep the Blackthorn at 834 Irving. We will fight as long as we can to SAVE BLACKTHORN!
In the event that the McGrath Corporation is able to evict us and open their own pale imitation of Blackthorn, please support the other wonderful bars in the neighborhood instead.
