I wish I didn't have to resort to a GoFundMe; I'm usually a very capable person. However, I'm in a position that's going to need some outside assistance.
In short; I had surgery to remove a spot of cancer on the liver and it's preventing me from working for a few months.
I've spent the past 10 years living the dream. I'm a full time artist who makes art! I've been an artist my whole life in various capacities and I've worked very hard to be able to have this as a career. My income comes from commissions, online sales, Patreon, and mostly selling my art at numerous conventions where I meet fans, potential clients, and collectors. I do all the work myself, there's no partner nor family to assist on the road or at home. So when I get sick, everything comes to a screeching halt.
Unfortunately, things changed for me November 2022 after the results of my first colonoscopy revealed a concerning polyp that would need further treatment. That treatment was a resectioning of my descending colon in January 2023. I had 6 weeks of recovery and I, thankfully, was able to live off of savings during the convention off-season. The recovery timing was ideal. The biopsy discovered Stage 1 cancer which put me on a watchlist of sorts for a couple years.
In November 2023, I had another colonoscopy and a CEA blood test with CT scan in January of this year. Although my colonoscopy resulted in negative findings, the other tests triggered alarms.
My CEA level was an 8.6 (vs 0-3) and they found a 1.5cm x 2cm lesion on the top of my Liver. I immediately had a consultation with a liver specialist who informed me that it's cancer and that I will be having surgery along with chemotherapy. They wanted to make sure my future cancer risks are minimized.
This was my 2nd major abdominal surgery in just over a year. Both with several months of down time. It's very stressful and completely out of my control. I don't have the savings to get by this time around. It's also not ideal timing. In fact, I had to cancel a few of my convention vending engagements while I recover and endure chemotherapy. I want to believe it'll only be 2-3 months, but realistically it could be longer. This is going to drastically impair my ability to generate income until I can get 100% back to work.
I do have health insurance, but as you know, it might not cover everything. There'll probably be some added expenses.
Your help would make all the difference! With your support and help, I will be able to financially get through this!
I have a fantastic support system through many caring friends who root for me every day. I love them all! Thank you so much if you can contribute! If you can’t, please at the very least share my story!
I will be updating this page as I get more info and developments.
All my thanks and appreciation,
-Byron
