UPDATE: Jason is still at Mayo Rochester where he's had his first chemo treatment and is working on his nutrition and pain to return home between treatments.

You can follow Jason's Caringbride page here if you'd like:

Ashley and Jason send MANY thanks to all of you who have donated, sent messages, and prayed for them! She sent me a message that they don't even know how they'll be able to thank everyone - many tears of thankfulness. Thank you all for your generosity!

On September 17th, Jason was taken to the ED in La Crosse for increasing abdominal pain and vomiting. After several tests, procedures, and a CT it was discovered that Jason had a softball size tumor in his left upper quadrant. Several days later, after another drive to the ED, this time at Mayo in Rochester, he had more tests, a biopsy, and an 8-day hospital stay. He returned home for a few days, but with increasing pain and feeding tube issues, he was readmitted to La Crosse on October 3rd, his 41st birthday. Jason started additional pain meds and TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition). Pain and nausea continued to increase, and another CT was performed that showed his tumor had grown another quarter golf ball size. On October 7th, it was decided that Jason would be transferred back to Mayo in Rochester where he has finally been diagnosed with a rare form of Ewing sarcoma cancer. He will undergo numerous rounds of chemo over the next few months to shrink the tumor and will then have surgery to remove the remaining. This will also be followed by more rounds of chemo.

This will be long road for Jason, and knowing he will be out of work for months, the financial burdens are already starting to weigh heavily on their family. Ashley has been blessed to stay at home with their daughter, Emmalynn (some of you may remember Emmalynn as a fierce fighter who spent weeks at Mayo Rochester as well right after she was born). She is now a healthy six-year-old who loves her daddy and really wants him home right now. This assistance would greatly ease their minds and allow them to focus on Jason’s medical treatment ahead. They will have increasing medical bills, hotel rooms in Rochester for Ashley, and many tanks of gas to travel for treatments and appointments. Ashley and Jason would be forever grateful for any amount you could provide. If you know Jason, he is a selfless guy who would find it difficult to ask anyone for help but would give anyone the shirt off his back if needed. They have found comfort in the many thoughts and prayers they’ve received, so please continue to pray for their family as they fight this battle.

Thank you for taking the time to read this page for Jason, Ashley, and Emmalynn.

A verse Ashley is holding close: Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Ashley and Jason are feeling crushed at this point, but know God is carrying them through this time.
