Dominican Republic Medical Clinic

Hello! I am a nursing student from the University of Michigan - Flint. I've known that I've wanted to be a nurse since I was in middle school… utilizing both my passion for helping other people, especially those who may not be able to help themselves, and my attempt to evolve my education. I am raising money so that I can take advantage of the offer I received to participate in an International Service Learning project in San Pedro, Dominican Republic. As part of this program, we will be taking medical equipment and supplies to set up clinics in churches, schools, and other areas to serve a population of extreme poverty. Many of these families have no running water and live in substandard conditions. I will be part of a group of medical professionals providing care to meet the enormous health care needs of this population. This will include direct medical care, examination of the culture, and health teaching with a focus on culturally sensitive interactions.

The money being raised includes roundtrip airfare, housing, meals, partnership fee, and transportation while I am staying there. It does not include any personal fees, passport, or immunizations. This trip will take place February 24th through March 3rd and the money is due by January 15th, 2017.

This is a rare opportunity that means a great deal to me because I’ve yet to be able to participate in such a wonderful program helping other people. In addition, it will help expand my knowledge of another culture, and a whole other way of living.
