Dom and Nick's MD Anderson expenses

We received some shattering news this week.  This picture is of my #4 child Nick marrying the girl of his dreams in June 2016.  When he called me to tell me of Dominique and his just meeting her in the fall of 2012, I knew right then that this girl that I had never met was going to be my daughter-in-law!  I could hear it in his voice - a sound I had never heard before.  He said, "I am not sure how to describe her, as beautiful or cute or sweet - or all three!"  Nick was a talented mind and not one caught off gaurd easily.  We met "Dom" a month later for our ridiculously large Thanksgiving as Nick is 1 of 10 children and fell in love with her as well.  They continued to date and both graduated in May of 2014 from Texas A&M - Dom with an Education degree as she is clearly gifted with children (just ask her three nieces!), and Nick with a Mechanical Engineering degree.  They both moved to Houston the first year after graduation, got jobs in their respective fields, got engaged, and had the loveliest, "hot" June, wedding in Buda, Texas where Dom is from!   We danced, laughed, cried happy tears and there were lot's of Aggie traditions and chants! Funnest wedding ever with so much love!  And they paid for the majority of their wedding because they felt it was their "responsibility".  They moved to Dallas where ALL of Nick's family is from, bought a house and each obtained new jobs - Dom as a 2nd grade teacher with RISD and Nick with an engineering firm.  5 months later, at a routine checkup which Dom attended to get the go ahead on starting a family - they want at least three or four children! - Dom got the devastating news that she had Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer at the age of 26.  We were devastated!  After a heart-breaking failed embryo fertalization, she started a 12 week chemo program.  Lots of details left out, but after seeing her chemo was not working, they were accepted into an MD Anderson trial.  Good news seemed to flow from this point on:  chemo (which meant weekly grueling trips to Houston), then a bilateral mastectomy, which would be followed by daily radiation (after she taught school every day!).  We heard in early April that the tumors had shrunk - were so fragmented that they seemed to be obliterated. (My layman's terms for sure).  Dom underwent her bilateral masctectomy surgery on July 27th.  They removed 15 lymph nodes as well - three of which had tumerous growths.  All was looking  good - radiation and then reconstruction!  This girl (who at 5'1" and was a pole vaulter as well as a cheerleader in highschool!) was up and moving and started teaching and preparing her new classroom 2 weeks ahead of schedule because as Dom puts it "she hates to miss work and let the kids down". They  went for their post surgery pathology report this past Tuesday.  Nick and Dom got the devastating news that the tumor had actually grown and that the chemo had been ineffective.  They learned that her cancer was so aggressive that she had a 60 to 80% chance of reocurrence in the first year.  On top of that, they learned that the radiation that she had planned for every day after teaching in a new school where she could get a fresh start with no one having to know about "her cancer" could not be performed in Dallas and that she would have to take leave at her new job and her new 2nd graders to have to go to Houston at MD Anderson for the entire 6 1/2 weeks of radiation, because their equipment was more sophisticated.  Essentially no friends and family in Houston and my son, Nick, being entirely unsure of how much he would be able to stay with her and also keep his job, on top of losing her salary during this time.  I never in a million years thought I would do this - I hate asking for help - they do as well and are unaware of this.  But we would like to raise at least $25,000.  I know there are other medical costs outside the scope of this request and there will be as well in the future, so if our goal is raised and you would like to still like to  leave a donation or words of support or prayers for Dom as well as Nick,  I know they would be humbly and graciously received  This request is initiated for the immediate consequences of the findings of the pathology report - Dom's inability to teach during this time and her lost wages, and to be able to stay in the Rotary Hotel which is connected to MD Anderson so that she can have a "home" and some "peace" while she is there and can navigate easily when Nick or her family cannot be with her due to their own jobs.  42 days at $150 per night for a "basic" room plus meals would be on top of that.  This hotel is owned by MD Anderson and ran by Marriot but is exclusive to MD Anderson patients.  It is literally connected to the hospital via a glass bridge.  No one said that life is fair - and it truly is not.  These two knew of this devastating news just the day before and still attended a large family gathering for Nick's younger sister as she embarked on a semester abroad this fall.  They were in so much pain but still thought of family.  Any, any donations appreciated as she still has a very long fight ahead of her.  Our hashtag for Dom and her fight is "Dominate"!  And we know she will.  Prayers are also very welcome - we look at the glass half full scenario - Dom has a 20 to 40% that it will NOT reoccur!  #DOMinate  I wish I could post more pictures - these two epitimoze work ethic, responsisbility, faith, family and most of all, love.  I want them to know and feel that when bad things happen to good people, then good people happen back!  Thank you to everyone in advance and God Bless!
