My step daughter has been in an abusive relationship for twelve years. They have five children, age ten and under. After many attempts to leave, she has finally fled over state lines to her family. They are safe right now.
He has filed for immediate custody of the children. We can not allow them to go back to him. He has thrown them to the floor, kicked them, slapped them down in fits of rage. She has been silenced by death threats should she report anything. It’s terrifying.
We we have found a lawyer who is willing to take her case, without forcing her to return for local proceedings. The children can stay in school here, and she can feel reasonably safe close to her family.
The lawyer needs a retainer of $6000.00 to begin proceedings. She has ten days to respond to the custody order. The family is scrambling to collect the retainer, but this is likely more than we will be able to come up
