Dolly's Medical ICU expenses
Don protégé
My name is Lauren Bradshaw and I am Dolly's mom. I rescued Dolly from the Fort Worth Animal Shelter a few years back when we experienced below freezing temperatures in December 2022. Since then Dolly has always been there for me. She signed my husband and I's Marriage License along with her brother Luka. My love for her runs incredibly deep.
Dolly had an emergency splenectomy on 2/13/25, she had a large mass on her spleen. The mass came back benign and she recovered very well.
This past week I noticed that she didn't seem like herself. I took her to her primary vet and she had critical lab values in her CBC. We were referred to VEG in Allen. From there we were referred to VetMed in Dallas due to their ICU set up and wider range of capabilities and specialists. Dolly has Babesia Gibsoni which was dormant when she had her spleen. Since removing her spleen, it is suspected that this hemolytic parasite has taken over her body and caused mass cell destruction. Dolly has been in the ICU, received a blood transfusion and is currently on the only medication known to help eradicate this parasite from her body.
Dolly needs time to potentially receive further blood transfusions to allow the medication time to destroy the parasites, as the parasites continue to destroy her blood cells.
Dolly is a fighter and I want to fight for her, for as long as she continues to show improvement.
** Update**
4/19/2025
Dolly needed another blood transfusion as her packed cell volume had decreased to 16% per her internal medicine veterinarian at MedVet Dallas when they had drawn labs at 9 am. After the transfusion we took Dolly back home because keeping her in the ICU was something we can't financially do at this point.
4/21/2025
We went to her Primary Veterinarian, Dr. Alan Coffman at Allen Veterinary Hospital and we did repeat labs. Her CBC showed massive improvement in her reticulocytes, she went from non-regenerative to regenerative. Her PCV remained the same as it was post transfusion on 4/19 at 27%.
We love you Dolly and we will continue to fight for you and support you during this ordeal!
