Dodo's Donations for Blind Dogs

We're starting this fundraiser in honor of Dodo, a special little dog to our family. No one realized that she'd lost most of her eyesight until after she moved in with us because she was good at getting around, but we noticed she found her way onto furniture and then walked right off. A vet confirmed that she probably only saw lights and shadows by then. On top of that, she had a sensitive tummy and sometimes made messes of herself. When we adopted her, a vet guessed she was probably close to 10. We thought that she might have been discarded because she'd gotten beyond the point of being a breeding dog in her previous life. She was found near an animal shelter, scared and covered in dirt and knots, walking in circles. She'd also recently stopped nursing puppies, even at that age and in that condition. To summarize a long story, Dodo ended up with us, and we kept her for nearly five years, filled with life's ups and downs. She just needed some small space in the world to be loved as a companion. We got so many good memories with her, and our sadness over her loss left a hole in our hearts. We aren't in a place where bringing another blind dog in to care for is possible, mainly because we still have three other senior dogs. But we think we will someday. In the meantime, in Dodo's name, we'd like to continue helping assist blind dogs because we understand a lot of thought and expense goes into their care beyond the basics. And this is especially true when they have long hair and have difficulty grooming themselves. Want to join us in making a difference? We're raising money to benefit Blind Dog Rescue Alliance Inc. The organization is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming blind and visually impaired dogs and educating the public about these special friends. I'd love to raise $100 by the day after Christmas, the day Dodo came into our home, to donate in her name.
