Documentary: “Home Safe”
Donation protected
Some of you will have seen my 2016 documentary “Being Invisible”, about the experiences of two homeless teenage girls.
I’ve become involved with the start-up of a fantastic not-for-profit which focuses on helping previously vulnerable people own their own home. Working alongside them has reinforced to me just how important it is for someone to have a stable home as a place of safety, comfort, dignity, identity, independence, love and even as a platform for helping others.
My idea and hope is to make another documentary which follows the story of a Mum and her 3 Kids who were forced into a sudden state of homelessness by having to flee domestic and family violence. We’ll see an example of what it is like to feel unsafe, to be judged, to be worried sick about what it means for your kids, to lose all your independence. We’ll see how the system can sometimes work against vulnerable families in these situations. And we’ll see how things like this can happen to all of us - sometimes in an instant.
I’m hoping to use this documentary to raise awareness as to why having a home is so intrinsic to many human needs, and so important to enabling us and our kids to reach their full potential. I’d also like to use it to raise funds for this amazing new NFP initiative.
