Doctor for Sierra Leone.
Donation protected
We first met Michael Turay in 2011, he was virtually an indentured slave in the boarding house that we stayed at in Kamakwie in the NW of Sierra Leone. We have funded him, and about 30 others, through school. Throughout his time at school he has shown himself incredibly bright, focussed and ambitious - he wants to be a doctor. He has been top of his year in his schools every year that we have known him and has demonstrated that he has more than enough ability to be a doctor. Below are videos of Michael's Head of Science and his Form Tutor.
Sierra Leone has suffered as a country like no other:- a vicious civil war, Ebola and recently a massive mud slide in Regent, a 'suburb' of Freetown where there ares still hundreds if not thousands of bodies still under the mud and rocks. Medical services are pitiful with very few doctors and nurses, this is our chance to make a difference.
Michael's direct family, his mother has no means with which to help, but his uncle, a fisherman, who is poor himself, has fed and housed him for the last few years and has said he is willing to do so for the foreseeable future.
The funds, hopefully raised here will go exclusively towards his course fees and any books and equipment needed. The course fees are approximately £1 200 p.a. and the course lasts seven years so we are looking to find £8 400 to cover the fees and books etc.
Please help us to help this very bright and determined young man achieve his dream and to do something for the country at large.
