Clark's Medical Bills

Hello Everyone,

On August 16th, 2014, I went on a whitewater rafting trip in Denali, Alaska. During the ride, I slipped in the boat while we hit a rapid. Everyone in our raft kind of "fell into" the boat, and when I pulled my leg out from everyone, I discovered that I had dislocated my ankle and broken my leg in a couple places. The rafting guides put my leg in a splint while in the raft, but due to the remote location, I had to finish the rest of the rafting trip.

I went to the ER that night in Fairbanks. They confirmed it was disclocated and broken, and reset the dislocation that evening. I was then scheduled for surgery later that week.

I had surgery on the 20th of August. It took a lot longer than expected due to the bone having broken in many smaller spots and the surgeon needing to locate them.

Here is a picture before surgery:

Here are the xrays of what it looks like underneath now:

At the present moment, I am waiting on the swelling in my foot to go down before they can take the sutures out and put a full cast on. That is scheduled to happen on September 4th (My birthday!). Once that happens, I will be on the better road to recovery. The Orthpedist said that I will probably have the cast on for about a month, and then move to a walkable boot device for awhile. Physical therapy will probably be included in there somewhere.

The hard part:

I did all this without having medical insurance. I advised all the medical staff of this before many of these procedures have been done, and while many of them have offered me discounts on my medical bills, the final bill will be pretty high. The $15,000.00 is probably not the final number yet, but is my best guess at what will be close. I hate asking for money from anyone, so if you would like to help me with this bill, you're more than welcome to, and I will be eternally greatful.
