Sam's Bike Tour for Clearwater

The Five Boro Bike Tour is one of the biggest communal bike rides in the world: riding 40 miles through New York City including stretches through Central Park, on FDR drive, and over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. It is exciting and exhausting and above all inspiring to see so many human-powered vehicles taking to the streets.
In 2009 we had our first Team Clearwater participate in the Tour - a natural fit to use small human-powered vehicles to raise money for our big human & wind-powered vessel. It was a huge success raising over $12,000. Well, that vessel, the historic Sloop Clearwater , needs that money more now than ever. Built in 1969, Clearwater is now in the midst of a massive $800,000 restoration of the hull and every $100, $1000, $10,000 covers the hardwood, fasteners, and highly-skilled shipwrights working everyday to rebuild America's Environmental Flagship.
After several years away and two kids, I am ready to get back on the bike and I expect to be in shape by May 1st, right around the time that those shipwrights will closing up the big hole in the Sloop and the bills will be rolling in. So if you can pledge to support my ride, you'll not only be helping me to ride all 40 miles (a daunting thought right now) , but you'll be helping to get the Sloop out sailing again.
The hundreds of kids who sail aboard each week will thank you, the crew will thank you and the ship herself will show her gratitude as she plys the mighty Hudson for another 45 years. Please join me in this effort and then join me for a sail on the fine and splendid Sloop Clearwater.
