Coffee for inspiration?
Most of you know that eight years ago, while riding my motorcycle from work, I was in a life-threatening motorcycle accident. Having sustained a C-4 Spinal Cord Injury and a shattered pelvis, doctors warned my family that I would most likely never walk nor breath on my own and probably require 24 hour care for the rest of my life. Despite those predictions, with the help of my late wife Kathy and your prayers, I have been blessed with an life beyond expectations. I live on my own and have quite an active life considering my physical limitations.
As anyone who has walked through major medical conditions know, living with SCi is not a walk in the park. (No pun intended.) My average annual medical costs are around 40k each year! God has been gracious and I’m always surprised at what the Almighty has done.
To celebrate my 5th year of recovery, I began working with Reneu Health and set the goal to walk again. Today, I am able to walk short distances with a walker!
To celebrate my 8th year, I have committed to take up cycling... well, “triking” that is! As all things SCI related, specialized equipment is not inexpensive. A recumbent Hase Trigo at $2400 quickly rings up at $6000 when converted to a quadriplegic’s needs. I’m not usually one to put my hat out but numerous friends have asked why I haven’t given folks the opportunity to say thanks for whatever bit of inspiration I’ve given others. So, here we go!
If we ran into each other at Starbucks, would you buy me a venti? By exchanging that virtual cup for a $5.00 donation, we can get quite a few miles down the road! As always, I’m grateful for every one of you, whether you join us or not. Either way, I’m going to ride again. You know that I am!
