DJ's Story
DJ (Dean) Bahe, son of Dean and Teresa Bahe, was born September 20th, 1989 with two club feet. He had surgery as a baby on both feet and again on just his right foot when he was 6, but unfortunately it hasn’t been a permanent fix. He has finally gotten to the point the pain is no longer manageable and the doctors have determined the only good option left is a bi-lateral amputation.
On Tuesday June 27th 2017 he will be having his right foot and lower leg amputated below the knee. The first few weeks need to be about rest and healing, and after roughly 4-6 weeks he will be able to try on his first prosthetic. The prosthetic will essentially be the design and fit of his leg for the rest of his life and it can take many months to make sure it is done right, however if everything goes according to plan he should be up and walking around on his new leg by October.
Once he is finally comfortable with his new prosthetic, it will be time to amputate the other side. Not only is he going through this long, painful, difficult process once, but also has to immediately go through it again.
There will be months of having to find ways back and forth to physical therapy where he will be completely relearning how to stand, walk, go through everyday life, and hopefully at some point be able to run.
How You Can Help
During the healing process there will be a loss of income and increased medical expenses. This GoFundME Campaign is an effort to help with those expenses. While insurance will cover much of the medical expenses, it does not cover all costs associated with DJ's life changing procedure. We are calling on the generosity of his family, friends, and community to help in the following ways so that he can focus on healing and rehabilitation.
1. Donate whatever you can. No amount is too small, and every contribution will go directly to DJ's living expenses and rehabilitation.
