DIY til we die (and we hope that’s not soon)

Thanks for checking out our GoFundMe! We are Legends Bar & Venue. We pride ourselves on being a full DIY(Do it yourself) music venue. This means that since 2017, when we opened our doors, we have been funded solely by our personal investors. No big banks and no super rich people to help us. We were able to get through our COVID shutdowns of 2020 and the few years it’s taken to rebuild from that. However, in 2023, our biggest task to date hit us.

Above our music venue is 4 apartments. We all lease from the same person. In January of 2023, the roof(which has been an ongoing issue since we signed our lease) basically gave in during a rainstorm. The apartment upstairs looked like the monsoon scene from Jumanji!! Guess where that all goes? That’s right, through the floor into our bar & venue. We had the city come and inspect the building. The building failed the inspection, the tenant was removed from the apartment, the electrical box was locked up, and our landlord was ordered to get the roof fixed.

It was at this time, our lawyer advised us that we should start putting our rent money into an escrow account until he makes the necessary repairs. Well, the landlord didn’t like that and has now been attempting to break the remaining 5 years we have on our lease and evict us.

We have been fighting through the court system with him, and unfortunately that isn’t something that is cheap. These unexpected court costs have cut into our already thin DIY budget and we are now currently drowning in legal fees.

Here’s the bright side of all this. WE HAVE FOUND A NEW LOCATION!!

We have found the perfect spot to move the venue, however this new location will need a lot of renovation to get it up to par and able to host the shows we have booked for the remainder of the year.

We don’t have a number on any of the costs, but we know that they will be rather expensive.

This is where the community comes in.
