DIY Taster Sessions for Women and Girls

WiCAT (Women in Construction, Arts & Technology ltd) is a not for profit organisation run by and for women, to promote and support women in non traditional trades.   We run introductory classes for women in a whole variety of trades and skills they would not usually have access to.

This year, we are looking to celebrate International Women's Day by putting on a free Taster Day for women and girls to come along to and get a flavour of what we offer.

Throughout the day, tutors will offer sessions In skills such as Joinery, Decorative Paint Techniques, Mosaic/Tiling, Fixing to Walls, Pointing, Electrics, Plumbing etc.  Participants on the day will be able to do taster sessions in at least four different areas, learning from skilled and qualified women who have a wealth of construction industry experience.

The event will be a celebration of the skills, strengths and possibilities of women - it will be a relaxed, fun, day, with lunch provided and plenty of opportunity to pick the brains of our tutors and volunteers.

The event will take place at WiCAT on International Women's Day, Sunday March 8th 2020, from 10am to 4pm

Any funds raised will go towards the cost of tutors and support staff and materials needed for the day as well as the cost of lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

WiCAT relies a great deal on the good will and energy of our volunteers as we have very little funding.  Most of our classes have to be self-financing, which makes it hard for people on low incomes to access them.  We are constantly trying to find funds to help us subsidise our work so that we can offer free or lower cost places to those who cannot afford them.  We are based in Burngreave, Sheffield, in an  area which has  many people on benefits or low incomes, many single parents and young mums.

Many thanks in advance to all of you who would like to help support this event - it will be a great opportunity for many women and girls and a great way to celebrate International Women's Day 2020!
