Dixie's Heartworm Treatment

Meet Dixie! The sweetest 1 year old German Shepherd mix who loves cuddling, exploring outside, and belly rubs. This past week my boyfriend and I rescued her from a shelter that is known to have an 80 percent euthanasia rate. Seeing her at the shelter shaking and hiding from anyone who looked at her, we knew Dixie didn't have much time left due to the fact that she is heart worm positive. The shelter had no intentions of helping her overcome this deadly disease. While my boyfriend and are working on raising money on our own, heart worm treatment can be very expensive, and time is of the essence. We were ready to take on the financial responsibility of having a dog, until we learned that treatment can be upwards of $1,000. We had two options at this point. Return her to the shelter where her time left is unknown, or adopt her in the hopes of being able to turn her life around. Dixie has been in our lives for a short time, but has already opened up into a completely different dog than she was when we met her at the shelter. She has proven to be a very loving, trusting dog who is eager to please and loves to play. Without this treatment, the worms living in Dixie's heart and lungs will kill her. The longer we wait, the more damage is done to this poor girl. We want to provide Dixie with the best life possible and are working hard to raise the money to give her that. In the meantime, any donations will help us get her the treatment she needs as soon as possible. We are extremely grateful for any help and so is Dixie!
