Displaced by the Mosquito Fire, Help Genie & Luna

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Michele Bosco-Sailor, and I'm fundraising for my friend Genie, a member of our Outlander fan group.

Genie and her kitty Luna were displaced by the Mosquito Fire in El Dorado County on Thursday, September 8th, and they are now staying at a Motel 6 in Sacramento until it's safe for them to go home. Genie and I first met when I started NCCVO in July 2013; she was the first person to join when I got it up & running. She has been a great friend to me since then, so making sure she was safe on Thursday was essential to me. This emergency came at a bad time for Genie due to recent vehicle expenses, so the funds will be used for her lodging and meals until she is able to go home.

Thank you for any help you can offer!

UPDATE 9/10/2022
Genie's home in Georgetown is still under siege, so it's uncertain when/if she & Luna will be able to return home. The Motel 6 is a safe haven for now, but help from others is certainly still needed.

UPDATE 9/11/2022
The fire is still only 10% contained, and with Genie's health issues (not to mention her kitty Luna), there's no way she can stay in her car, even though the heat has come down at the moment. The Motel 6 is paid for through Wednesday night, but donations are desperately needed to extend the stay if needed.

UPDATE 9/14/2022
Genie & Luna have secured a safe room in a private residence, starting Thursday 9/15, but the fire is only 25% contained, so they still can't return home yet. The move and upheaval caused damage to one of her essential medical devices, plus her computer, which she uses to work remotely, so there have been unforseen expenses, including having to replace some computer equipment. The need for assistance is still there, and we appreciate anything you can help with.

Genie lives in Georgetown, and as yet they are not allowing anyone back into that area.

UPDATE 9/18/2022
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, as it was very much appreciated!

The fire has moved away from Genie's home area, and thankfully she and Luna were able to return home on Saturday, September 17th, after 9 days away.

Unfortunately, and even though Genie had brought her computer equipment with her (to allow her to continue to work remotely) in the frantic rush to get packed a couple essential components were accidentally left behind, and by the time the replacement items arrived from Amazon, Luna had knocked the computer tower onto the floor, causing some significant damage that cost $150 (which wasn’t budgeted for). The damage repair was completed on September 16th, the same day that Genie relocated to a safe private home in Grass Valley, which was secured by her congregation, but she STILL couldn’t start work, as there wasn’t a TV in the room she was provided that could double as a computer monitor.

Gratefully, the evacuation order was lifted on Saturday, September 17, so Genie was finally able to return to a home that was intact and undamaged.

UNFORTUNATELY, she lost over a week’s worth of employment, so we still would like to keep the donation site open, in the hopes that some funds can still be generated to cover the lost wages Genie experienced.

We thank you for anything you are able to help with!
