Disaster Relief for Cyclone Idai - Africa
Donation protected
CURRENT DISASTER TOLL:
Affected: 3.5million
Deaths: 600 people
Home Destruction: 90% (Beira)
As you are all already aware, there is an enormous disaster facing Mozambique and Southern Africa at the moment and the details of it’s impact are described below.
PERSONAL
I am personally deeply impacted by this given that I have friends and distant relatives that are affected by this disaster and my whole country is now on its knees being it is already one of the most impoverished nations in the world.
The town of Beira is where I went to swim my first national swimming championships when I was 12 years old and where my swimming career kicked off. That has resulted in a fruitful and blessed journey for me. Given I have travelled to great lands and achieved what I have, I am not in a position to ignore such disaster. I have decided to donate a personal investment in a second hand clothing stock (circa 15 tons - 100,000 clothing pieces Pictures of stock in containers below) which is already in Mozambique. This has recently arrived in Beira in the next few hours and will be distributed by a reputable dispatching team. As you can imagine with there is currently 150,000 people being “housed” in warehouses after being rescued, with very little water, food and clothing, the situation is desparate.
(Above: 5 tons of Australian 2ndhand clothing in Beira being dispatched to shelters)
GOAL:
I would like to target raising clothing and food donations of 200 tons in approx. 10 containers from charitable entities in Australia that would support this cause. Given this is a short notice, we will prepare and announce a logistics plan and budget on what it would cost to send the donations so this can be used to communicated back to all of you that have donated the funds.
I will touch base with you all with updates very soon. In the mean time, please share the message with potential interested and influential parties that would be willing to come onboard with some sort of support.
