DIRE NEED OF DENTAL AND FOOD $$ ASSISTANCE

Hi, everyone. I am writing this GoFundMe campaign for my friend Joshua, who has been one of the most gentle and resilient people in my life. I deeply believe in Josh and would love to see my community come together to help them and their partner find a better situation. Josh is a nonbinary musician using DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) and instruments since 2002, from North Carolina currently based in Ohio with their partner and partner’s family. Homeless luckily right now, but not houseless. They have passionately produced music for 12 years under the moniker of “I am just a Pupil” and most recently Normal Human (@n0rma1.human on Instagram) as well as countless collaborations that have been released through labels and self released over the course of 12 years so far. Contributions through the purchase of music and merchandise associated with these projects is also appreciated. For merch I do all sliding scale prices. Links are at the end of this description. 


Josh and their loved ones have been hit with a number of stressors over the past few years that has made life an enduring struggle. 


The most urgent need currently is funding for Josh’s medical protection, as their dental health reaches a point of emergency. Their need for dental surgery has been continuously postponed until December. Until then, they are taking antibiotics but are still at risk of an abscess, which can lead to serious illness and death. Money is needed in order to relieve the costs of the antibiotics, provide supplementary care like proper nutrition and over-the-counter medicine, and to prepare for the cost of appointments and dental procedures. 


For the past few years, Josh has served as a caretaker to their mother, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and is currently in a late stage 4 condition. They also cared for two nephews and their mother’s dog. Joshua’s contributions to the family during this time have been crucial and unappreciated by their mentally ill mom and made it difficult for Josh to work a waged job even before the outbreak of COVID-19. They assisted their mother through chemotherapy, temporary remission, and recurrence of cancer in what has been a deeply emotional and arduous process. Josh comes from a financially unstable home forever, which made issues such as housing security and proper treatment by the medical industry additional challenges to this process for the entire family. Josh’s mother was coerced into hospice care by the state while she was mentally compromised, which led to Josh and their partner being kicked out of their home and forced to relocate to Ohio to the home of their partner’s family. 


During this period, Josh’s personal health has been seriously diminished and has included experiences such as being hospitalized for stress-induced digestive bleeding, additional to the problem of dental needs. Their dental needs are related to high levels of stress which make the body vulnerable to disease as well. 


Beyond medical needs, Josh and their partner are seeking a stable and independent housing situation in a community environment that will support their creative and social energy. They are looking to rent a room, or, if possible, an independent space in the eastern region of the United States. They have considered Richmond, Virginia, North Carolina, and Ohio but have had no luck confirming the housing that they have looked into, especially because of the destabilization from the pandemic outbreak. 


One crisis is enough to create substantial need. For Josh, stressful situations have been stacked on top of one another, often occurring simultaneously and for long periods of time. I know few people who have endured as much as Josh. Despite all of this, Josh has consistently seeked the best for themselves and their loved ones and strived to continue to be creative and healthy under the worst of circumstances. They have even promoted and contributed to my own creative endeavors and inspired me to stay active. The same can be said for other friends of Josh as well. I deeply believe that Josh deserves all of the support that they can get and I know that they will use all support to not only lift themselves into a healthier place, but others as well, as they have always done.
