Dion McCallum- Justice for Sonny

Donation protected
Dion (Sonny) McCallum was killed in a tragic drive-by shooting.

Sonny was the father of 4 children: 2 daughters and 2 sons. Who he co-parented after being separated from his marriage of 16 years. He was the proud, proud grandfather of one grandson that he spoiled and loved dearly.

Following his heart, Sonny moved to Edmonton, Alberta to be close to his children and grandbaby who were his pride and joy.

He was a happy go lucky man who loved to laugh and make people laugh. Sonny was known for helping anyone out in any way he could. He would give you the shirt off his back in a heartbeat and joke about it later. He believed in raising and taking care of any child as his own. In his eyes, all children were his children. He was a truly selfless and kind man without a mean bone in his body and had no criminal record.

Sonny was always proud to tell everyone his roots. He was known for his knack of hitchhiking and could make it anywhere before anyone who had a vehicle. He made it to all 4 of his children's graduations and other milestones this way. He didn't care how but he always made it happen.

Sonny was at home the early morning of Sunday, January 17, 2021. He struggled with complications from a recent stroke and diabetes, which took part of his foot. So he was known for watching TV in the living room throughout the night from the phantom pains. Someone drove by and shot at the home in the early morning hours. One of the bullets unfortunately struck him. According to the family member staying with him, he didn't know what hit him. He thought something blew up in the living room. After several attempts of the family member running to neighbors for help, Sonny managed to charge his phone enough to finally call 911. He later died upon arrival at the hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

His children and family are devastated beyond words. Nobody can believe that of all people, Sonny was taken so tragically. He was just planning a trip home to visit his family and wanted to come back to find a place closer to his kids and grandbaby.

So the kids and his family wish to transport him to his home community of Ile a la Crosse (3 hours north of Meadow lake and 8 hours north-east of Edmonton) where he can rest peacefully alongside his predeceased family. It's what he would've wanted.

The children and family are asking for help with the high cost of province to province funeral costs, transportation from Alberta to northern Saskatchewan, and for the lodging of his family. If you would like to help and show your support for Sonny and the family,  any amount is greatly appreciated. If you would like to support in any other way, please let us know. Even sharing can mean the world. The family would be immensely grateful and we are sure he would love the support. ❤

If any friends, family, or loved ones wish to attend, we understand that with COVID-19 guidelines not everyone can make the trip. So we will be hosting the services through zoom as well.

We never wished for it to happen this way and it was never supposed to happen this way.
