Dillon Shotts Memorial Services

My little brother Dillon Shotts passed away on March 21st,2018 at the young age of 25. Dillon suffered from Muscular dystrophy the type duchenes, arthroclyposis, scoliosis and many other compounding issues due to all of his illnesses. As Dillons Big sister I always took care of him and to me it was just what I did. Dillon was so sweet, funny, sarcastic and selfless. He would be in the hospital or sick and he would worry about others and try to make whoever visited laugh. Although Dillon was a prisoner of his earthly body and could only move one finger, his positive uplifting spirit could not be contained. His beautiful soul and kind hearted nature affected every person he came into contact with and his Influence reached far and wide. Dillon truly was the epitome of unconditional love and perseverance. Doctors said he would never live past 9, then when he beat those odds they said he wouldn't live to be 18. He fought everyday to do what we all take for granted and rarely complained. He was the first to tell you to be grateful, love every one and be kind. Dillon may of had multiple health issues but his passing took us by surprise. I honestly thought my brother would outlive me, or atleast I hoped he did. Dillon fell ill with kidney stones and was taking anti biotics but his body just wasn't responding. He was rushed to the hospital March 17th and when he arrived doctors quickly realized he was in septic shock. Sepsis is an infection in the blood. He already had such a low immune system the smallest infection could turn deadly. The doctors did everything they could and eventually Dillon was placed on life support. My father, his aunt Natalie and I stayed at the hospital for days, hoping and praying that he would wake up, make a miraculous recovery as he had many times before. It quickly became evident that Dillon was past recovering and even if he did we would at this point lost what movement he had in his one finger, have no cognitive recollection and would essentially be kept alive by machines. After a long, hard and difficult discussion with his doctors, nurses and specialists we decided it was time to take Dillon of the machines and end his suffering. The doctors could tell by his vital signs he was in distress, pain and uncomfortable so we moved the focus to comfort care. At this point they told us Dillon had only a few hours if that. We all surrounded him and prayed as he passed away. It was the most difficult moment in my life, my baby brother, my best friend, the light of my life was now gone. My father and I didn't have life insurance on Dillon and I am only 28 years old with very few assets. I do work full time and so does my Father. We both have little to no savings and now have the weight of all the funeral costs and are struggling to gather the funds. I created this gofundme because we need help to cover his funeral costs in Michigan and Alabama. Dillons wishes were to be buried next to our mother down in Shottsville, Alabama where our family is from but we lived in Michigan. We did have a memorial in Michigan for his loved ones and friends up there. The cost are astronomical and transporting a body across state lines has ALOT of regulations and expenses as well. Dillon deserves the dignity and respect that his last wishes are honored. Any donation, prayers and support is welcome and very much appreciated. We had an original goal of 3,000 that I naively put before realizing how much a funeral and the expenses were. The amount we now need in order to pay the funeral home in Michigan and Alabama is close to 11,000.
