The digitalization of Africa ( African Youth)
Donation protected
When I met President Barack Obama in Toronto in January 2020, we talked about the future of work that will be powered by the creativity of young people, learning new skills that could help them build teams that will be vital in the future full of job automation and online opportunities.
Every year for my birthday (June 9th) I operate an initiative to foster African youth development. This year particularly, my birthday is falling in the middle of a global pandemic and I noticed the disparity of opportunities for youth.
The global pandemic has pushed us to work from home and normalized remote working and online opportunities in western countries.
The impact of COVID19 is leaving unequal access to opportunity, connectivity, and technology.
Africa's under-20 population is projected to be the continent’s largest age cohort by 2070.
So it's vital that young people are offered the tools to be successful in a digital-first economy, writes the African Development Bank’s Hanan Morsy.
Only when Africa can close these education gaps, and set up its society for a digital overhaul, will it reap the benefits of new technologies.
What does it mean for Africa?
By 2030, young Africans are expected to make up 42 percent of the world’s youth and account for 75 percent of those under age 35 in Africa. With such a large population of young people, tech tools and connectivity are important in order to thrive and bridge the gap.
Target:
Phase 1 ( Campaign #1)
- Central Africa
Douala, Cameroon
- West Africa:
Bamako, Mali
Port-Harcourt, Nigeria
The idea
I want to empower and uplift the youth in Africa who do not have access to the resources (connectivity, power, jobs)and tools we have in Canada or elsewhere. With your help, I want to make an impactful change for the youth and to enrich their minds with the multiple online learning programs available at AfricaHacks , Google, UDEMY, and others.
This is the impact I want to start for my birthday and this campaign will be open for the next months.
The plan
The idea is to empower the minds of our youth in Africa by providing them with:
- Computer (connectivity)
- Data ( to be able to connect the device)
The initiative
We know how Technology is such a powerful tool of connection and resource to address and prepare us for the future of work.
****PLEASE CONTINUE READING UNTIL THE END *****
Execution
The funds will be distributed through AfricaHacks under their StartUp Creation program , which will allow the targeted youth to access computers, data to power their dreams and build sustainable businesses.
Big challenges in Africa mean big opportunities. A large youth population with high potential in the middle of a global pandemic is an opportunity to grow entrepreneurs and empowering them with tools and resources
to create their own opportunity ( start-up) and be their own changes.
Notes
All sources of donations are welcomed and encouraged. Help us accelerate the path to success for the youth in Africa today. Kindly share with your friends and community.
Merci
