Debbie has a heart of gold and needs our help! As a mother of six children, the responsibility for providing for her family has fallen mostly on her. If you know Debbie, you would probably agree that she puts the needs of everyone else above her own. What you may not know about her is that she does this with a cheerful attitude despite the fact that her family is going through two extremely difficult trials.

A few years ago, Debbie’s husband was diagnosed with kidney failure and has been on dialysis ever since. Because of the nature of his job at the time of his diagnosis, Debbie’s husband had to quit his job and has since been on disability. He has had multiple scares that have caused Debbie and her family to wonder how much longer they get to spend with their husband and dad.

About three years ago, Debbie’s daughter, Alicia, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian cancer. After multiple rounds of chemotherapy, things seemed to be improving for Alicia. However, it was discovered about a month ago that the cancer was back and that it had spread into many other areas of her body, including her intestinal tract. Because of this, Alicia has had an impossible time eating anything. Her doctors have told her that she will not be able to eat anything more than a clear liquids diet because the cancer has taken over her digestive system. Doctors are hoping to get Alicia into a clinical trial as her last hope, but there is no guarantee that her body will respond positively to it.

Despite the nightmare that Debbie and her family are living, Debbie is still dedicated to her job. As Payroll Coordinator, she has committed to making sure that all of the employees at Unified Fire Authority get paid correctly each pay period.
