This will be The First World Championship, at the highest level of competition forAthletes with Down Syndrome in Swimming, Syncronized Swimming , Gymnsatics, Table Tennis, Tennis, Judo, Athletics and Futsal.
Attending 500+ athletes from 20+ countries from around the world will compete in all these different sports.
The United States will only be represented with one team. A Swim Team.Diego will be one of the four swimmers that will be competing.
Also Diego has been competing in local swim meets with ablebody swimmers to achieve the requiere qualifying times to be able to particiapate in this World Swimming Championship.
Now with almost 3 months he is training very hard to achieve yet another dream and this time in Long Course which demands from him a lot more attention, concentration and stamina.
Diego has been an thlete with Special Olympics Florida for the last 7 years that competes all year long in swimming , surfing , golf, cycling and Alpine Skiing. This organization also had given him a foundation of friendship, confidence in himself and is a great support to him and continue to be so.
Diego had participated in many local competitions. He had been fortunate to be choosen also for many Florida State Comeptition. Bringing home many Gold, Silver and Bronze medalas over the years.
Diego started competitive swimming only 6 years ago. with the Coral Springs Swim Team Club in the recreational summer program. After that a good neighbor encourage us to sign him up for one of the swim teams. Thanks Brian Mc Night !! Since then we never regret the desicion. It hasn't been easy but as times passes Diego accomplishments and confidence grow. He had lots of up's and down's but he is more determine than ever to suceed.
Diego had done two World and International Swimming Championships as part of the Down Syndrome Team USA in short course. In 2012 Diego came back home with a Bronze medal from one of the two Team USA relays. In 2014 he got his first individual International Silver Medal, and was part of four od Theam USA relays with two Silvers and one Gold.
Unfortunately, unlike other countries, the USA does not provide funding for the athletes competitions nor training. So in order to make this possible for Diego we need your help to cover the costs for training, uniforms, medical insurance ,travel and lodging expenses for Diego and Mom as coach.
The estimated funds needed to be collected to cover the costs of the trip are $6500.
Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Please share this with any friends and family you think will be willing to help Diego attend The First World Tisome Games.
THANK YOU SO MUCH in advance for your support.
