Diego's Surgery and Treatment
Donation protected
Diego just turned one year old, he had two blood transfusions and three surgeries, and he is successfully recovering and growing happy, after overcoming great health challenges at his short age. He was admitted at San Jorge Children’s Hospital, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, when he was 4 months old, due to upper gastrointestinal bleeding and severe anemia. He was diagnosed with a high-flow arteriovenous malformation in his liver, complicated with portal hypertension, marked splenomegaly and associated ascites. He also was noted to have an annular pancreas. Given his young age and the rarity and complexity of his medical condition, he required treatment at a specialized center with pediatric interventional radiologists and hepatobiliary surgeons with expertise in pediatrics, which were not available in Puerto Rico. He was transferred to Boston Children's Hospital in July, where he received treatment and multiple procedures for a period of four months. His medical treatment was successful and he is now stable and happy. He will continue to be monitored throughout the next year in Puerto Rico.
We feel blessed and grateful for the medical attention that he has received.
We also thank our friends, family and everyone of you, for your prayers and support. God bless.
