Diana's Cranial Helmet

Hello, my name is Diana Nicole Romero! I am 7months old and in need of a Cranial Band. After several months of appointments and evaluations it was determined that Diana has Torticollis which will require physical therapy and Phagiocephaly which requires a cranial band also known as a helmet.  Unfortunatly the insurance does not cover the cost of the Cranial Band. A cranial band is worn for 23 hours a day. It is designed to allow the baby's head to form into a natural shape as they grow. The best time to start treatment with a cranial band is between 4 to 7 months and can be used up until 18months of age. Diana will need to be scanned for a helmet soon so please read below OR check  out the youtube link below regarding Torticollis and Plagiocephaly. 

*What is Torticollis?    

Congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is a tilting and/or turning of a baby’s neck to one side as a result of a muscle strain to the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle that runs along the side of the neck from your clavicle to the back of your ear. When this muscle becomes tight or weakened, your baby’s head tilts to one side and/or turns to the opposite side. CMT is seen in approximately one in 250 babies.

Torticollis can cause or worsen plagiocephaly and requires separate physical therapy treatment.

*What is Plagiocephaly

Plagiocephaly (play-jee-oh-sef-uh-lee) can usually be identified by flattening on one side of the back of the head, and one eye or ear may appear higher than the other.​
 
-Forehead protrudes slightly on one side 
-Back of the head flattened on one side 
-Sometimes referred to as a parallelogram shape because it looks like one side of the baby’s head has been pushed forward 
-Eyes and ears may be misaligned.
