I am writing to ask you to help provide direct support for Ms Diana Namumbejja Abwoye in her quest to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
I’ve known Diana for about 5 years, since she was part of the team that provided home care for my dear friend Ruth Wald. Diana stood out because of her strong curiosity about the process in which she was involved.
As you may know, I’ve been mentoring health care students for over 40 years. Diana is one of the most inspiring students I have had the good fortune to meet. And perhaps the most challenged.
Diana faces all of the challenges that afffect women of color and of limited financial means all over the world. She is currently a student in the Direct Entry Nurse Practitioner program at Simmons College. And she can’t afford the cost of this program without help.
We all try to support righteous causes. We do this without actually knowing who will benefit from our money, trusting the judgement of the NGO agencies who have solicited our attention.The idea of direct support, just giving a deserving person money, may challenge your personal boundaries.
Why can’t Diana find institutional support? Well, right now, she is doing school related work 12 hours a day, and has no time to do paid work or search for money.
I hope you will be able to join me in supporting Diana. Today I am sending her $1200…that’s $100 a month for a year. No tax break, no administrators, no overhead. If you are interested, please let me know by email, phone, or USPS. I will send you more details of her financial need, and how you can give her money.
