Aria Ryan Chatham was born on April 22, 2014 at St. Marys hospital in Richmond, VA.  She was diagnosed with Down Syndrome 4 months in the pregnancy.  We wanted to know the sex so there was a new blood test called the harmony that determines the sex early on and it also screens for down syndrome.  When the test results came back with the t21 gene, we knew it didn't matter that she was still going to be ours.

Aria turned 4 months old on the 22nd and still hasn't been home.  She was born with all of the medical problems they had warned us about.  She has already been through a stomach operation which she was born with a stomach blockage, but when they went in to fix the blockage her intestines were wrapped and she had a small spot on her small intestine.  The doctor ended up not only fixing the blockage, but they had to remove her appendix and place her pancreas on one side and her intestines on the other.

Aria was also born with a whole in her heart.  She was transfered to UVA in Charlottesville, VA  to get all fixed up.  Going on 4 weeks now she finally had her 15 hour operation to fix the whole.  Aria's operation was extremely difficult because of the enlargment of her heart from the heart having to work harder.

After the surgery they had a tough time getting her off bypass, but they did.  We got a call when we came home and her lung had collapsed and we were three hours away.  When we finally got there they ended up putting her back on by-pass for four days to let her heart rest and drain the fluid from her lungs.  She finally came off of by-pass, but they are still trying to ween the ventilator and the fluid in her lungs just keeps building so they arn't able to take her off.

I called the PICU this morning and they said they may go in through a catheter and look at her heart function at the end of the week.  I am worried that they may have to go back in after being in there twice already.

We just want her home.  This is the time to bond with your child, to teach them to roll and crawl.  It has been a very stressful 4 months, but I wouldn't change a thing about her.  She is a fighter and is not willing to give up!

The expenses of her medical bills, fuel, lodging and food are just building up being that she is so far from us we aren't able to see her as much because we unable to afford it.  Please help us see her more often.
