Dexter's Vet Appointment

Doação protegida
Dexter is a rescue bearded dragon who entered my life about a year and a half ago. He was healthy for the first year I had him, but for the past 6 months, has been experiencing some health issues. These issues could be related to his diet, age, or both. I am unsure of his age, since I was not given that information when I adopted him, but I do know he is at the very least 3-4 years old because he was full grown when I got him. He has been lethargic, not eating greens, not chasing crickets as much (waits for them to come to him), preferring cooler temperatures, not basking, has had a dark beard for the past few weeks, and seems to be limping (even though he is provided with proper uvb and eats insects with calcium powder and d3). I got really scared approximately one month ago because he had a sudden change in tail color which didn't seem like shed, and called multiple vets to see when I could get the soonest vet appointment. I took the soonest appointment at the vet that seemed to have decent reviews because I knew he needed help as soon as possible. This was a mistake. I didn't get a diagnosis and the vet rushed through the appointment and showed no concern for Dexter. He prescribed lactulose and gave him a multivitamin shot which perked him up for a few days, but didn't seem to fix any issues.

If you know Dexter you know he is an extremely sweet animal. If you know me, you know how much I love and care about him. I literally talk about how much I love him all the time. I show people pictures and videos of him even if I know they don't care. I do so much research on how to take good care of bearded dragons that I don't even know how he got to this point. He really is a therapy animal to me. He is so pure and sweet. He is able to boost my mood when I am feeling sad, and calms me down when I feel anxious. He means the world to me and I feel absolutely horrible that he is experiencing these issues, and I cannot seem to do anything to help him. I can't even afford to take him to the vet again so he can get the help he needs and deserves.

I need to take him to the vet again, a vet who knows what they are doing and shows concern about his well being. I want to have a couple different tests done on him including an X-ray to see if his limping might be caused buy a broken bone, or if he is showing signs of MBD. He also needs to have some bloodwork done. These two things in addition to the appointment fee will be at least 200 dollars, and this isn't even including medications, or other possible tests that might have to be done. I have done my research and talked to other Bay Area beardie owners in order to find the best vet for him. I am a full time college student as well as a part-time employee and I am struggling to gather the money to afford another vet appointment. I have been doing absolutely everything in my power to help him get better on my own, and nothing is working. He needs professional help.

I would be eternally grateful for any donations to help get his health back in shape. No amount is too small. I would like to reach my goal within the next week if possible because I am trying to take him to the vet ASAP. He means so much to me and I would never forgive myself if he passed away because I couldn't afford to get him the help he needs. I am a firm believer that you shouldn't own a pet unless you can afford to provide for them and I have an overwhelming feeling of guilt and disappointment in myself because I cannot provide for him right now. I see him unhappy and lethargic every day now and I am doing everything in my power to help him, but I still cannot provide him with the help he needs. If you read this far and have decided to donate, thank you so much, I appreciate you more than you understand.
