WMC Action 5 News
On July 26th, the Swearengen family home in the Oakhaven neighborhood (Brompton Rd),
was consumed by a devastating fire. My grandmother raced to get everyone out alive
causing her to almost have a heart attack.
My family stood outside for 7 hours, watching as the flames engulfed the house, waiting for
relief from the Red Cross. The Red Cross was only able to provide them with a 2 night stay
at a hotel and 3 days worth of clothing.
Standing helpless, with only the clothes on
their backs, they watched 30 year of memories burn to the ground. My grandmother worked for the United States Post Office for 12 years before retiring. She is housing three families which includes three toddlers, a deaf granddaughter, autistic grandson and newborn great grandchild. With my grandparents being retired, they were already under tremendous emotional stress raising grandchildren with special needs. The fire, and not having a home to lay their heads, has caused tons of stress and despair throughout the family!
The bulk of funds raised will provide housing
until permanent shelter is in place. Along with shelter, we are asking for your support with
the following items:
-clothing, shoes, personal hygiene items, food
-furniture, 3 beds, linens, cooking utensils,
-sofa set, appliances
All of the newborn things were burned in the
fire:
-baby bed, stroller, baby clothing, diapers,
-baby food and much more.
We hope that this fund will help to alleviate some of the challenges that my grandparents and cousins are facing as they try to move on and rebuild their lives.
In this uncertain time, we know many people
are facing hardships and we are extremely
grateful for all donations.
If you can not donate please support by
sharing and reposting.
-Thank you!!
