Destinee DuBose's M.A. Thesis Film

Hi everyone!

I am completing a Master's Degree in Film at the Savannah College of Art & Design in Atlanta, and I'm preparing to shoot my thesis film next month. I have learned so much at SCAD and I am so grateful for the opportunity I've had to pursue my dreams of storytelling through film.

The title of my thesis film is "Bluest Eye", written and directed by me. The film is a cautionary tale that follows a young Biracial woman named Raevyn. After years of battling whether to seek validation in the white spaces around her, or stand firm in her truth, Raevyn reaches her breaking point when she reaches adulthood and ultimately loses the fight that she has tried so hard to win. The goal with creating this film is to empower and invoke emotion from audiences by showing authentic diverse stories through the eyes of a genuine character. The mission of "Bluest Eye" is to create conversations about African-American experiences and enable people to be brave and own their uniqueness.

Once I complete my final film this quarter, I will be graduating and receiving my degree in June, 2024. With help from family and friends, I plan to submit my film to festivals in hopes of getting this story out there and taking the next steps in my filmmaking career.

BUDGET

Our shoot dates for this film are February 2-4, 2024.

The majority of this budget will go towards paying our talented cast and shooting location expenses. Next, another big part of our budget is feeding hot meals to our hardworking crew and cast. It takes a village to create a beautiful film, so we would like to give back to our crew for putting their blood, sweat, and tears into this project. For our locations, we will mostly be using PeerSpace. These houses for rent are a bit pricey and your contribution will deeply help bring this film more to life. No matter how big or small the contribution, every dollar counts and I greatly appreciate any amount that you are willing to contribute.
