“DESERT SOUNDS”: A PODCAST ABOUT ALTERNATIVE MUSIC IN JORDAN

Supporting this podcast, you will be bringing the wonderful, alternative and vital music from Jordan out of its place of origin and into the world!

When you travel in places like Jordan, Syria and Lebanon you are likely to be exposed to the intriguing sounds of both modern Middle Eastern pop and more classical Arabic artists like Umm Kulthum, Sabah Fakhri and Fairuz. The region has a long and proud tradition of producing brilliant musicians, and this podcast takes you on a journey into the contemporary alternative music scene in Jordan.

At first, you would not associate Jordan with indie music and experimental rock, but right there in the desert, in the midst of the political and social upheaval of the region, you can find a vital and growing community of young musicians that are composing, performing and producing alternative music. During three episodes, you will be introduced to new music, the people behind it and learn much more about Jordan and it’s music venues. For each episode, we focus on a different local band and we listen to their personal stories and the music that they play.

It’s young, Arabic and it’s alternative - it’s just awesome!
