Opportunity:
Many of you and/or your children have had the pleasure of being influenced by Derrick Cross and his Family. His passion to teach the game of basketball, but more importantly his leadership by example in how to treat people, work hard and DO THE RIGHT THING define him as a person. Derrick and Aurora are proud people and would probably be upset with me for doing this, but I’m going to give us all the opportunity to “do the right thing” as a community and
friends.
Late Friday, Aurora had a ‘lock up’ seizure driving home with baby Felix(4 months) and JR, their two sons. The car veered off the road and crashed head-on into a limestone wall here in Bloomington. Aurora and Felix were both separately air-lifted to two different hospitals in Indianapolis. JR miraculously escaped unharmed. Baby Felix will hopefully be released from the ICU today and looking better. Aurora will have a long road to recovery. She will go back into surgery as I write this letter to fix the second of her two pelvic fractures. Broken ribs and leg, open ankle fracture and some lacerations to kidney and lungs are her main injuries. All said, she will hopefully be able to walk in about 4 months and ultimately be okay.
Derrick and Aurora have opened their door to countless kids, housed them, fed them, offered financial assistance to those in need, etc. They've done so with big hearts and never expected anything in return. Truly wonderful people.
Their only car was totaled in the accident. Hospital bills will be catastrophic. Here’s OUR opportunity! I’d like to raise as much money as possible to provide a car, pay some bills and deaden the hospital bills to come. Let’s come together as a TEAM and help this beautiful family. They deserve it.
I’m not going to ask for a certain dollar amount. I will simply challenge you to do what you can. Open your heart and feel good about helping. People are blessed in different ways. If you’ve been blessed financially….Do enough to move your heart. It will feel good.
