Dermot (Jeremiah/Jerry) Breen passed away on October 3, 2018. Dermot was a father, husband, friend, coach and an supporter of the youth in our community. His sudden death at the very young age of 50, has brought an unexpected and difficult financial burden to his immediate family.
To know Derm, anyone would tell you what a great father he was. Although Derm seemed to be in a constant state of perpetual motion, he always made time for the kids – his own, and every kid in our community. The hundreds of kids that he coached and the parents of those children will keep his memory in their hearts for an eternity. He was the type of man who was never able to say no to a person or family in need. He was our “go-to guy”, our “problem-solver.” Always there to help, never dismissing a call and protecting us, as a highly decorated member of the NYPD for so many years. He worked longer and harder than most people to serve his community and provide for his family. We were all lucky to have known him and have had him in our lives, even for too short of a time.
It is “our turn” to pay it forward, just as Derm had done for so many of us. Let us keep the Breen family (wife Jen, son Kyle and daughter Julia) in our hearts and prayers during this trying and difficult time.
