Derek's Medical and Rehabilitation support

Spende geschützt
My older brother Derek has had a pretty terrible past few months. He lost his job as a travel agent that specialized in oceanic cruises (due to Covid) and two days later was hospitalized with a  condition called Aortic Disection. It is a  serious condition that has a high mortality rate. This is where the Aortic wall creates a tear and can block blood flow to the bodiy's extremeties causing Stroke, Heart Attack, and/or even death. The day the doctor called to confirm he should go ahead with the surgery despite a huge chance my brother wouldn't make it was the worst day of my life.  All I could say was "He would want you to try".

Derek recently came close to knocking on heavens gates, but thankfully an amazing surgical team was able to repair a valve in his heart and replace three parts of his aorta.

During the 6-7 hour surgery they had to put Derek on a heart bypass while they  were trying to save his life. In doing this his body wasn't getting the sufficient amount of blood flow to his organs and parts of his brain which lead to him having a stroke. The stroke has left him blind in one eye and with the lack of blood flow, also caused the liver and kidneys to start to shut down. He was put on dialysis and also has had numerous infections and had a trach installed to help him breath.

Since his liver wasn't functioning this was causing his body to try and preserve his torso and brain limiting the amount of blood to his extremeties which caused the top third of most of his fingers and toes to die.

Derek has been in the hospital since April 2nd to now (almost 4 months), most of that time alone as travel for family to be with him is difficult and even if we could get there, COVID restrictions at the hospital have left us unable for the most part, to visit. He is currently in a physical therapy hospital which he was moved to just about a month ago and is learning to do the simple task of  sitting up, he still has a long road  before he can walk. Due to losing his home while in hospital, once released from hospital in Colorado he will have nowhere to go there.

I am trying to raise money to get him moved back home to Phoenix from a small town in Colorado. This way he can be closer to the health care professionals that can help with his medical needs, and also bring him closer to his family.

I have already made one trip to Colorado to get some of his important belongings and will be making at least one more, I will then possibly have to rent a specialized vehicle of some sort to make sure he is comforatable when he is strong enough to travel and I go back to pick him up.

When he gets to Phoenix he will have to go to doctors appointments to schedule when they will be amputating his finger tips and toes. He will need help with transportation to and from Hospitals, Doctors offices and Physical rehab. There will be special equipment needs and a host of other things I'm sure I haven't even considered yet. I will be taking on as much responsibility as I can to get him to and from, but may again need to rent specialty medical transportation.

I know that we are all struggling right now and I know this is a big ask but anything you can do to help would be gratefully accepted. Just trying to get my brother back.
