DELPHIA DREAMS, an art gallery and gift shop is losing their building to foreclosure. Which will make me lose my home also. It is located in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, a beautiful resort town nestled in the Ozark mountains. We have been here for 21 years.
Due to the financial crisis and the extreme weather last winter, we’re in a bit of a jam, and we now realize that the way back to success will be hard work and engaging our customers. Providing quality goods and having fun has always been our motto. Slow recovery from the recession? Forget about it. Declining tourist trade? So what. That won’t stop us. What we’re looking for is pretty simple. To keep our building so we can keep our shop. We need to catch up on our mortgage and taxes.

Delphia Dreams has been a destination for art, jewelry, faux furs and fun in Eureka Springs, Arkansas for over twenty years. Founded in 1993, we expanded over the years into three shops with 20 employees. When customers came to our tourist mecca, we were the best ride in town. People would come and take pictures. They wanted to find out what was going on. From our bubble machine to wearing crazy hats and zany antics, we had a lot of fun.
It’s a magical place: part boutique gift shop, part gallery. A place where people come to see the exciting, new things we have to sell and the crazy ladies who sell them. Four women against the world, having a ball, asking people to ‘come in and play.’
As Delphia’s owner and resident artist, I have always prided myself in painting and selling 'art for the people’ that looks expensive but is affordable. Art you can touch. Anybody can walk in my shop and find something they can afford. Then they tell their friends and family.
I haved lived in Eureka Springs for 21 years. I share my home with my teenage son and disabled brother. If I lose the shop's building I will lose my only source of income. This will make me lose my family's home to foreclosure also.
Cynical naysayers tell us to close our doors and get ‘real jobs.’ That’s possible in the big city, but not in this humble mountain village of two-thousand people, where jobs for women of our age and experience are scarce.
Our neighbors call Eureka Springs ‘a granola bowl full of nuts, fruits and flakes.’ We’re proud of that. We have beauty, diversity and serenity in this little hamlet where everyone still says ‘hello’ to both neighbors and strangers.
Twenty-five percent of our population are artists, with a healthy sprinkling of LBGT’s, musicians and hippies. We’re a colorful tribe lucky enough to live in such a heartbreakingly beautiful place in the Ozark Mountains.
