For Vero's family...

Just over a year ago, my cousin Delmy Veronica (who we affectionately call Vero), was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and was given just weeks to live. At the time, she was living in Vegas having left the majority of her family here in Chicago many years ago. Her courage in making such a life altering move, just her and her 3 boys, was amplified when we brought her back to Chicago to fight the big C. I've never met a stronger woman!
Vero overcame one obstacle after another, fighting for her life, desperate to stay with us and see her sons and grandkids live full and prosperous lives.
We fought with her, most notably her army of sisters and her mom who had just undergone quadruple bypass surgery. We all came together like never before, cousins, aunts, nieces, nephews, brothers... we had to let her know how much we love her and that she was not alone. I thank her for reminding us what family is.
It is with a heavy heart that we are now saying good bye, Vero is now on her last days. After the prognosis of only weeks, she survived a long hard fought year+.
But her body has said it's time and we now sit with her in vigil, sometimes in silence, mostly in grief, but always filled with the memories she has given us.
And it is now that I reach out to you, my family and friends and ask for what we had never anticipated needing... financial help for her funeral costs.
If you can find it in your hearts to help us in our time of need, thank you, if you can't, we understand. Anything we raise beyond our needs will go to St Jude's Childrens Research Hospital.
