Delacruz Family Emergency Covid Relief

Our family, like many families were dealt a hard blow when COVID-19 hit this country & we lost all employment in a matter of days. With 2 toddlers and a new one on the way (now almost 3 months old) the struggle was truly real. Having fallen behind on rent starting in September of 2020 and still unable to catch up, our lease now expires at the end of February. Although we aren’t being “evicted” we are told by office management that we can not stay here after the lease term nor have the option to renew. This forces us to have to look for a new place of residence. Unfortunately - because we are behind, when an apartment building we apply to reaches out to our current apartment’s leasing office - they are told we are behind on rent and for how long. Therefore, having our application denied.

We didn’t think this was a situation we would be facing when we filed the CDC Eviction Moratorium in September that would protect us from eviction. We also want to raise awareness that this situation is very real and very scary. The CDC Moratorium protects us from being evicted and put on the streets during the pandemic but nothing protects us from being kicked out because of an expiring lease. 

We are attempting to raise money to pay off the back owed rent at our current complex in order for us to be able to move out at the end of our lease on Feb 28th, 2021.
