Dee's Gender Confirmation Surgery (Top Surgery)

My name is Dee Do (He/Him/His). I am a 21-year-old transgender male. I have started my transition from FTM approximately one year ago.  

After a year long battle with my health insurance, I am unfortunately unable to use my insurance to cover the cost of top surgery and will have to pay out-of-pocket ($10,000). For those that may not know, top surgery is a procedure that creates a more masculine chest and is fairly common for trans men and nonbinary people. While I love the idea that binding creates an image of a more masculine chest, it is extremely uncomfortable. I have been on a journey to live authentically and comfortably within my body. 

Top surgery would change my life in many ways beyond just alleviating my gender dysphoria. I have struggled with my mental health for most of my life; however, have hope that one day waking up in a body that feels “right” will come.
 
I am a full-time student and I work as much as I can outside of classes and although hard to admit, need the help of others in order to fulfill this dream.
