Deena Needs a Hand-up Not a Hand-out

Donation protected
Deena Sequeira needs a hand-up, not a hand-out.  I met Deena through a parish priest who was captivated with her sad but hopeful story.

Born from humble but devout Christian parents in a poor village in Mudigere, India, it is located high in the mountainous jungles of south India, Deena contracted Polio as an infant and remains totally paralyzed from the waist down.  Without any medical or therapeutic support, her mobility is limited to her shuffling around on her hands.  She lives in a small rented hut and is able to eat with the assistance of her very poor but devoted husband.

Despite her severe handicap, Deena has shunned charity and relied on her faith, hard work, and talents to create beautiful handmade craft jewelry, which has allowed her to remain mostly independent.

Many have commented that her delightful jewelry could be highly in demand but the combination of her handicap and remote location has proven to be an obstacle.  She has a burning desire to be a more productive member of society and to share the beauty of her work.  But she needs help to obtain appropriate braces for her legs, better equipment for making her jewelry and a small place for the couple to live.

It is a small request and every penny will go to make Deena’s life better and allow her to achieve her lifelong goal of being a contributing member of society and not a burden.

God bless
